Inform. Engage. Go Beyond.

We believe that by integrating climate and sustainability education in the grade school curriculum, we can better prepare youth to take action on the social, economic and environmental issues we face today. Our volunteer team is comprised of students from various disciplines at the graduate and undergraduate level. Volunteers inform students on important topics of sustainability, and share their own research and experience in STEAM and sustainability-related fields. Our programs engage students with fun, hands-on activities and presentations specifically design to match the Alberta Curriculum. Ultimately, our goal is to encourage students to design an action plan with every visit, to create innovative solutions to real world issues that they can implement in their own lives and communities.

BOOK NOW:

Our programs are ALL offered for FREE and can be booked through our modules page. We provide a variety of modules and topics, which are all curriculum-aligned, for you to choose from. Once you have chosen a topic of your interest, we ask that you take the time to thoroughly fill in the booking form, which can be found in each individual module page. Once you have submitted the form, our volunteers will promptly send you an email to schedule a time which will work for both our volunteers and you.

In your class, our post-secondary student volunteers will deliver the following:
  1. Inspirational content, sharing their own stories, interests and personal motivations with the students.
  2. A short and current lesson provided by our content partners aligned with the Alberta curriculum, including a hands-on activity to inspire and engage students.
  3. A call-to-action to bring environmental action into students own lives and communities, making positive climate impacts starting that day.
All content is aligned with the current curriculum. More information on the modules we offer can be found here.

We ask that teachers participate in holding their students accountable to their "call-to-action" following our visit.

 Teacher Testimonials
Often we spend most of our time teaching about reducing, recycling, and re-using, as well as renewable sources of energy, but just a surface understanding. Students on Sustainability, by going into more detail about fossil fuels, students are better able to understand why they need to make changes in their own households, and to inspire others.
- St. Ambrose Junior High School Teacher
We had 104 grade 5 students participate in the presentation provided by Students on Sustainability. The hands-on component of building the solar circuits was a great addition to the work they had been doing in science previously. This increased their understanding of the role solar energy plays and how the circuits work.

The Energy Conservation program for my grade 7's was a great way to tie everything together at the end of our heat and temperature unit. We talked a lot about energy, how it works, and how we can manipulate it to meet our needs. Ending with the sustainability piece was perfect so the students could realize that we don't have endless resources to transfer energy. Metaphorically, it was like the cherry on top! The Students on Sustainability presenter was great at presenting knowledge and facilitating the learning of the students. They responded well when students had questions, and demonstrated great classroom management.
